Interior Trend: Organic Shapes

Interior Trend: Organic Shapes

From soft oversized curves that are perfect for curling up in, to sumptuous silhouettes that will bring a warm and inviting feel to your space, one of the biggest trends emerging in the world of interiors this season is ‘organic shapes’. It’s filtering through into all aspects of design from accent armchairs to contemporary garden furniture. To shed some light on this new trend, we sat down with Danetti designers, Francesca and Damien to discover more about how you can bring some softness and signature style to your home.

What is an ‘organic shape’ in interior design?

Think flowing lines and sweeping curves – organic shapes take inspiration from nature, so aren’t restrained by structure, sleek lines, or sharp angles. Think about those more natural formulations and silhouettes that you would find in landscapes and greenery.

Francesca says: “Styles are moving away from the all-white linear shaping of 90s minimalism and are taking on this softer shape, and this is coming into all areas of the home from furniture to lighting. It’s happening everywhere, so it’s going to be a trend that sticks around - we’ll continue to see it for the next five to ten years, and that’s due to the feelings that are evoked from those kinds of shapes such as ‘comfort’ and ‘calm’ due to the soft lines.”

Why are ‘organic shapes’ on-trend this season?

As rounded corners and soft smooth forms are reminiscent of nature, they evoke a feeling of calm and relaxation in a room and contribute to a feeling of wellbeing which is especially important this season. Damien explains: “With everything that has happened over the last few years due to the pandemic, people want their homes to be a calming place. Designers are trying to translate that into the shapes used in interiors so they can influence the spaces. We’re seeing more elegant curves, soft undulations and generally more rounded shapes. These characteristics will all strongly feature in our designs this season because curves have a calming effect on our psyche and soften the environment to create a sanctuary – a space where you can curl up and de-stress.”
