The Desire to Slow Down with Cloud Dancer: Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2026

Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 is here, Cloud Dancer, and it is set to be a pushback to a world that rarely pauses. Described as a ‘lofty, billowy white’, it reflects a growing desire for calm, clarity and spaces that feel intentional rather than visually demanding, and overstimulating. At Danetti, we see Cloud Dancer as a thoughtfully designed backdrop, giving the home room to breathe again through allowing personality, texture and materiality to take centre stage. In this blog, we’ll take you through the meaning behind this years’ choice, as well as how you can apply this colour to other 2026 interior trends.

Pantone describes Cloud Dancer as a “symbol of calming influence in a society rediscovering the value of quiet reflection”. Cloud Dancer is more than just ‘white’, it is set to encourage true relaxation and focus and make room for innovation and creativity. The colour has been a bite back at the “24/7 hustle and always on culture” that we are living in, where we are all overstimulated and overwhelmed.

Reflecting on the current socio-economic climate:

This is more than just overstimulation from our screens and our jobs, in a world where micro trends can last a mere few weeks, we as consumers are constantly bombarded with the never-ending list of trends, styles and ‘new must-have viral products’, products we ‘need’ to buy. This is finally the colour that is encouraging you to slow down in every way, and we couldn’t agree more. As we are becoming more intentional with what we are buying and want pieces in our home to be timeless and to reflect our true personalities. Cloud Dancer allows you to be creative through pops of colour and differing textures, providing that perfect base to start again, and create a space truly unique to you.

Why are people unhappy with the choice?

Some critics have argued that white isn’t even a colour, it doesn’t bring anything new, and almost feels too easy and too safe, as white is always a best-selling colour, and is normally the default when decorating. Others have said Cloud Dancer resembles a ‘clinical’ setting, and makes our homes all look the same instead of stripping back individuality in exchange for an aesthetically pleasing space.

Our in-house Designer, Francesca, argues against the online discussion around it being too easy and safe and believes Cloud Dancer encourages true personality to shine through in our homes, “Having a peaceful tone like Cloud Dancer as a backdrop to your space, where every colour will suit, allows you to add those accent pieces. Instead of dictating a mood, it allows personality to come through in the furniture you choose, the pieces you’ve collected over time, the materials that feel good to live with and stand the test of time”.

Pairing Cloud Dancer with 2026 Interior trends

Whilst there was a lot of online confusion around this year’s colour choice, we think Cloud Dancer reflects 2026 interior trends perfectly. Every trend prediction we see looks at slowing things down, creating that unique calm space to breathe within your home, and adding your own flare into your space.

Textured Finishes

One way to create that calm, serene look is through using layered materials, tactile finishes, patterns and shapes to keep the room from looking clinical, and instead create a room with warmth and depth. To do this take a soft cosy boucle like our Heath armchair, Leona ottoman storage bed, or the Zoey ivory boucle 3 seater sofa, or a natural chunky weave like our Maeve day bench, our Siesta ottoman storage bed, or our Natalia swivel chair. To complement these light, airy tones, consider pairing with a statement finish coffee or side table to draw attention to the area. Our Russo coffee and side table offers a striking calacatta ceramic all around perfect for adding that statement accent piece. Or our Austin range that has a white fluted base to match your space but also a white ceramic marble effect on top to create a layered effect.

Chrome Detailing

Chrome is returning in a quieter, more considered way and works so well with a creamy white. Consider adding chrome within your lighting set up, like our Chloe 3 bar adjustable pendant which pairs beautifully with our Curva white gloss extending dining table, by creating a subtle contrast without disrupting the calmness of the space. Or create your own unique arrangement above your dining table or kitchen islands, with our Nina adjustable 10 pendant light

The smaller details matter too, adding chrome detailing through leg finishes, like the Benton bedside table, brings a contemporary crisp-white finish to your space and is essential for creating that clean, lofty, calm look.

Sculptural Seating

We have already seen soft curves and sculptural seating become a trend throughout 2025, but pairing curves and Cloud Dancer is the perfect formula for that truly free flowing, spacious look. Our Ottilie chaise sofa in a natural chenille is the perfect distinct round design with graceful curves that creates an inviting silhouette, and cloud like comfort (literally!). If you want to add soft creamy curves as an accent piece, discover our Daphne ivory boucle accent chair, the added 360 swivel feature offers an additional peaceful, free flowing movement to your room.

To finish…

No matter where your opinion lies, Cloud Dancer is never going to please everyone, but that’s exactly the point. It signals a shift away from fast-moving trends and towards homes that are built slowly, and designed with intention and Cloud Dancer is the perfect canvas to practise that on. It is more than just ‘white’, it is a foundation for creating enduring curated spaces that aren’t rushed but carefully considered, and a true reflection of our personality.
