Our Exclusively Danetti design collaboration with TV’s DIY SOS Interior Designer and Presenter Julia Kendell is a collection of stunning contemporary furniture, developed and presented with a joint passion for pieces that really add something to an interior and interact with us in the home.

Where We Began

It seemed like a natural progression to work with Julia on this range. As a creative team we shared her ideology and fundamental design values, which made the collaboration a perfect fit.

My personal design ethos is all about creating an emotional connection between both the interior and the inhabitants that are going to be using that space. For me, it’s been really important to create a collection of furniture that creates a perfect backdrop for home life; furniture that has a sense of energy about it. Julia Kendell

The Inspiration

Right from the start our creative team and Julia were both focused on the same vision. We were inspired by design references with the clean modernity of slightly scandi forms and with the idea of mixing and blending textures.

Julia’s aim to create “A fresh and robust collection combining beautiful tactile materials” was completely in sync with ours, coupled with a desire to make stylish furniture accessible to all homeowners who want stunning, contemporary living solutions for their homes. Julia’s design philosophy is based on ensuring that everyone can afford to create a sanctuary in their home which is absolutely what we at Danetti are also passionate about.

Affordable design has always been at the heart of my work; there’s no reason why everybody shouldn’t get to have a beautiful home.” Julia Kendell

The Evolution of a Product

The collection evolved from ideas into products through a process of meetings, sketches, swatches, models and production trials. We used cutting edge 3D printing techniques alongside tactile finish samples to not only develop and tweak the designs internally but to bring the designs to life for Julia and the team. We find that holding a 3D print in your hand is a far more creative, responsive way to design; discussing the 3D models with Julia allowed us to see how the combination of simple forms and great proportions would look. A small change at the design stage can have a huge impact on the final feel of a finished product.

Proportion is so fundamental to good design. The beauty of 3D printing is that it allows us to fine tune small details; to see and feel changes very quickly and meaningfully, making sure that every detail is perfectly engineered.’ Sarah Inwood, Senior Product Developer

The Finishing Touches

With Julia’s input we fine-tuned every finish for maximum visual impact and performance. The versatile grey gloss, teal accents and natural oak veneer play a huge part in the rich look of the range but it’s so important to us that the products perform well. For the natural oak elements we sourced the thickest natural oak veneer and worked with our manufacturers on hand application and finishing so that we could deliver a designer look with practical appeal.

As a final flourish injecting colour and texture onto the range has really added that designer touch and made the overall result so dynamic. Accent colour, highlight stitching and thoughtful details all add to the designer style.

The Final Range

This was a true collaboration, with Julia’s involvement every step of the way. Julia has leant her designer expertise and flair with all aspects, right through to styling with us on photo shoots. The resulting range is a cohesive, dynamic and truly contemporary range. View the complete Julia Kendell range here

Working on this range with Julia has been really exciting. There was some natural synergy between our brand and Julia’s ethos as a designer that just clicked from the start. Danetti is all about the people that buy our products and what those products add to their home and lifestyle. Julia was in absolute agreement from the start that this is what should underpin the range, which is why it’s been such a joy to work on and we’re so proud of the results Daniel Smith, Managing Director
