House on the Market? 5 Tips To Help You Dress Your Home for Success.
February 22, 2019 at 1:09 pm 0

There's no denying in these somewhat uncertain times the current housing market is a little bit unpredictable. If you're thinking about putting your house on the market or currently listing, there are a few quick fixes to make your home look truly irresistible to potential buyers.

Simple touches such a fresh flowers and fruit will give your house that homely touch.

Making your home appealing for new buyers shouldn't take up too much of your time or money, but it's these little details which make all the difference...

1. Create Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is something your house has, or doesn't. Many of factors contribute to curb appeal, some of which are out of your hands altogether. That said, there are a few super easy things you can do to make sure your house stands out above the rest:

A simple paint touch up, cleaning and gardening will give your home all the curb appeal! Image via Pinterest.

  • Clean Windows. Making sure your windows have had a good clean, inside and out, will instantly make your house sparkle. Don't forget to give all the window frames a good scrub down, and if they need a little sand and a paint, it's definitely worth doing!
  • Shutters or Blinds. Shutters are not cheap, however, they do add value to your home, so an investment worth thinking about. Make your home stand out from your neighbours and think about those little bits of your interior you can see from the exterior.
  • De-weed and Jet Wash Paths and Drives. Spend a sunny Saturday afternoon pulling any weeds out from between tiles and giving your drive and pathway a good jetwash. If the exterior of your home is clean and looking well cared for, it gives potential buyers an indication of the standard you set for your home.

  • Get Green-Fingered. Depending on the time of year, pop down to the local garden centre and buy a few seasonal blooms. The fact you've taken time to make the front garden look good with flowers and a good tidy up will go a long way.
  • Tidy Up. I mean, this may seem obvious, but there's nothing worse than rubbish, an old sofa or old building supplies scattered around your driveway. Tidy up to give the best first impression possible.

2. Finish Those Odd Jobs Around the House

Maybe you've been meaning to fill those holes in the wall, or repaint the hall way from those mucky fingerprints. Make sure you set aside a weekend to get all of the little odd jobs done around the house.

Dark walls can show the scuffs so give your paintwork a touch up, or even repaint to look pristine. The Tiva Console table sitting pretty against deep grey walls.

If you feel like you've got nothing left to do, run through this little check list- there's bound to be something you've missed!

  • Touch up or repaint any areas that need some care and attention.
  • Fill in gaps in skirting boards and door frames. Fresh caulk will make the world of difference.
  • Oil any squeaky doors and cupboards.
  • Steam / clean curtains to look crisp and pristine.
  • Replace any cracked tiles.
  • Regrout bathroom and kitchen floors and walls. This will make your tiles look brand new!
  • Spend some time in the garden weeding, mowing the lawn and planting some lovely flowers and plants.

3. Clean Your Home From Top to Toe

Again, maybe an obvious one but give your home a thorough clean, making sure not to miss skirting boards, carpets and windows. Keep on top of the cleaning and dusting weekly, with extra attention just before you have potential buyers over to view.

Keeping your home clean and tidy will make potential buys know you've really cared for your home. Verona Barstools in the stunning kitchen of @renovationHQ.

It's also a great idea to have a Marie Kondo style clear out before moving. Not only will your home be organised within an inch of its life if any guest wants to check out the inside of your airing cupboard or kitchen drawers, but it will also make your life so much easier when moving! You'll only have to pack the things you need and use and be quick and easy to unpack in the new house as you will already have a home for everything.

Before you have a viewing make sure you do the following:

  • Put away any washing hung out to dry
  • Give the kitchen a spruce up. Clean any stainless steel appliances and surfaces with Baby Oil to disguise scratches and make it gleam!
  • Dust all your surfaces
  • Hoover the carpet and mop any tiles
  • Make the beds and plump up any sofa cushions
  • Declutter- hide remotes, paperwork and those odds and sods we all have lingering without a home.

Add homely touches to your interiors during viewing to make your home look cosy and inviting. The Effie Velvet Sofa is perfect for adding impact to neutral homes.

4. Keep Interiors Simple

Whether you're a fan of maximalist and bold interiors, it's likely the new homeowners will have a different interior taste to you. To make your home appealing to the masses, tone it down a little bit and where possible keep colours neutral.

The Zilo and Fia dining set is simple enough to appeal to the masses, yet packs enough style punch to show your personality.

Potential buyers will want to see the opportunities in your home and how to stamp their own personality. Now, we're not saying make you home a lifeless box with no personality, but maybe tone down the animal and floral print clash.

5. Add a Fresh Touch

Finally, go one step further and add small touches to your interior which will really show you care. Fresh flowers and a clean scent will do more than you think for visitors.

It's been said that injecting a splash of yellow instantly makes your home more appealing, while a fresh scent of clean washing or a spring day will draw potential buyers in.

Avoid overpowering fragrances and keep things subtle and not too feminine to appeal to a wider range of couples or families.

Market Ready?

There are plenty of things you can do to dress your home for success. The above are just a few small changes which won't take long but can make all the difference when attempting to sell your home.

Fun Fact: Research suggests that rather than call your house number 46, your home will be much more memorable to potential buyers if it has a name.

Properties named after books or animals or flowers and plants like Honeysuckle Cottage or Willow House will stand out and give a cosy preconception to those house hunting. We're not saying it's a must to sell your house, but it's a lovely touch and maybe something to consider when you move into your new home.

How to Mix and Match Your Dining Room Furniture: The Mismatched Look
April 21, 2016 at 4:20 pm 0
Mix and match dining setting At a first glance mix and match furniture may look like a totally random selection. However, it’s actually a much more considered design set up than just throwing any old pieces together. After all, you don’t want your dining space looking like your old student digs or your first flat, where non-matching furniture was more of a necessity than a lifestyle choice! When done correctly, mixing your dining chairs is a great way to create a unique look in your dining area. We’ve put together our own definitive guide to offer you style tips for pulling off a mix and match dining set. We also have tons of dining room decorating ideas, so you'll be creating this very on-trend mix and match look in no time!

Same Colour Dining Chair, Different Design:

By keeping the colour of your dining chairs the same, you are able to keep the coordination. You're also able to have some fun with the shape, style and size of the chairs you choose.

Mix and Match Same Design Dining Chair, Different Colour:

One of the easiest mixed dining chairs design ideas is having the same shape and style of dining chair but in a variety of complementary colours. This is because there is still consistency from the design of the chairs, but you can really get creative with which colour combinations you choose. Opt for two tones or a neutral palette for a more subtle take on this look.
Mix and match dining set: Arc Oak and White Gloss and Senn Colourful Dining Set Danetti

Mixing bold chair colours against tactile wooden and gloss surfaces is a fun take on the mix and match look. Not to mention the gorgeous look of the close up and detailing.

Same Material Dining Chair, Different Design:

This look is ideal if you have a particular material choice in mind but still want mix things up. The key to pulling off this mismatched dining setting is to stick with just one material finish but in different chair styles. We’ve opted for real leather but you can choose any material that best suits your space. It’s a good idea to stick to one colour when opting for this mismatched look. This is so that there aren't too many points of difference. All of our leather chairs come in the same palette creating plenty of potential to coordinate different designs of chair.

Play With The Height Of Chairs and Bar Stools:

Okay, so a bar stool isn’t technically a dining chair but we had to include this mix and match dining setting. Having different heights in your dining space, such as bar stools at a breakfast bar, will help to create a nice visual balance in the space. We’ve kept elements the same such as the wire leg frame of both the Eames chairs and of the Anzio bar stools, as it is a contemporary coordinating feature that helps to tie the whole look together. If you want to have an even more coordinated look throughout your space, you might want to consider something like an Eames Style Bar Stool, as they have similar styling on the base and the seat mirrors the continuous curve of the Eames chair.
Anzio Modern Gas Lift Bar Stool Danetti

You can also mix the colours of the bar stool seats, like we've styled here with the Anzio Modern Gas Lift Bar Stools in mulberry purple, white and black £132

Mixing The Traditional With Modern:

When mixing traditional with modern pieces, less really is more. Try not to have too many different styles of chair as this can make the space look jumbled rather than styled. We’ve selected a seat similar to the Eames Dining Armchair, called the Finn Dining Armchair, as its iconic design means it will always look on trend and up to date. To add a traditional spin, we’ve chosen the tactile oak frame finish of the Scandi style Senn Oak and White Dining Chair, which also helps to add a touch a warmth. The white finish of both of the seats helps to tie the whole look together. When selecting a table for this look, we’d suggest something with glass and chrome accents, like the Tiva Small Glass Dining Table or Naro Round Glass 4 Seater Table. The transparency of the glass would let the chairs be the ‘star of the show’ while the chrome accents would give the set a truly modern edge. If you’re really inspired by this timeless look, we definitely recommend taking a look at our “How to Add a Modern Edge to a Traditional Home” blog post (after you’ve finished reading this one of course), which offers an array of style inspiration for creating this look throughout your home.

Different Details:

Mix and match furniture can create a very impactful setting. However, there are ways around this if you’d like to have a more subtle take on this statement look but still with some level of variation. Changing just one element or detail of your chair selection keeps the coordination but breaks up the palette for a mini mixed look.

Tactile Textures:

When mixing textures, we suggest keeping the shape and style of your dining chairs as similar as you can. This is so all the style impact from this look comes from your choice of mixed of materials. Whether it’s wood with chrome or fabric and faux leather, like we’ve opted for with our Riva and Tori chairs, having a mix of textures in your dining area will create a tactile and very contemporary vibe, with the added benefit of getting to have such a range of gorgeous material finishes in your home! Both of our Tori and Riva chairs are stackable seats, so they are great space savers. This makes the chairs ideal for storing away and then getting out again when you have guests round for dinner.

Same Style Dining Chair Different Design:

This dining room design is another subtle take on the mix and match look. By keeping the style the same but having a slightly different design of chair, you are able to mix things up just enough so there is a stylish visual impact, without the look becoming too overpowering in your dining space. A great way to do this is to place dining armchairs at the each end of the table. This not only mixes things up a bit, but it creates a really neat and uniform modern dining room. There's also two extra comfy seats at the end of the table for your favourite people. This style of chair is definitely something to consider if you want to comfortably sit around your table chatting, long after the dinner plates have been cleared away! Have we inspired you to give the mix and match look a try in your dining area? Let us know your favourite style in the comments, alongside any stylish set ups you already have in your home! :)

Modern Contemporary or Soft Sculptural? Which Style are You?
February 12, 2016 at 1:43 pm 0
On our most recent shoot created two similar looks, each with a different feels. We took two of our new dining sets and shot them in the same room set. However, but by styling them slightly differently we can show you just how versatile our furniture can be. One look is sharper, more of a cool city style. While the other is a gentle, curvaceous tactile look, but still with a modern edge.  Our dining sets are always effortlessly stylish and modern but sometimes it can be hard to visualise how they will work in your space. Here we show you how easy it is to create a look you want. By adding a few different twists, the furniture can sit happily in any home with existing accessories. Or, if you are in a mood for change, why not copy our room set style!

Look 1: Modern Contemporary

If you are looking for a more urban style with a modern contemporary feel why not recreate this look. The gorgeous glass Tiva table is ideal for creating a feeling of space. With the reflective chrome legs it looks stunning, especially when paired with cool grey Elise chairs. The chrome chair legs enhance the look perfectly and add to the overall elegance of this uber stylish set.   Set in a monochrome room with touches of colour, this is a look for those who want a bit more out of minimalism. By just choosing elements that make a style statement so here are some tips to follow when trying out this look at home:
  • Stick to a monochrome scheme overall.
  • Inject some colour with well chosen accessories. But remember- less is more.
  • For a modern urban feel choose chrome, glass or brushed steel.
  • Don’t be afraid to ‘fluff’ it up a bit with some soft textures like sheepskin, which work in contrast to the cool metals.
  • Greenery or something floral will bring life to the scheme. Even a bunch of plain foliage or twigs is enough to get the look.
What we used: Tiva Glass and Elise large Dining Set £539Canio Leather Occasional Armchair £499, Reflect White Gloss and Chrome sideboard £499.

Look 2: Soft and Sculptural

If you are looking for something a bit softer visually you might like the tactile curves of the new white gloss Eva table and the gentle shape of the Santos chairs. This is a really stunning combination with a sculptural feel that is easy on the eye and looks contemporary but classical. The white gloss is a striking finish. Whilst the chairs that are wrapped from top to toe in faux leather are beautifully curved and stackable too! What really makes this look is the absence of a metal finish which makes it all about the silhouette. Once again set in a monochrome room, this look works well but appears softer and more feminine than our previous look. If you are after a gentle version of cool style then this is the look for you. If you want to get this look at home, try these tips:
  • Use soft modern pastels like mint to accentuate the monochrome backdrop.
  • Add stylish texture and pattern with cushions and other soft furnishings like rugs etc.
  • This look works with tactile textures like leather and white gloss. Don't be afraid to mix textures. Gloss, matte and leather will all blend really well in a mix of monochrome tones.
  • Accessorise this look with stylish bold pieces - a dash of clutter but not too much! Here we went for fewer bolder pieces. A great interior designer tip is to go for oversized props. Choosing props that are larger will automatically give a more dramatic impactful look.
  • Choose sculptural leaves and plants, with strong large blooms for a graphic feel. Shop around, there are some amazing faux versions available.

Q&A with Interior Designer and Presenter Julia Kendell
November 27, 2015 at 2:31 pm 0
Following the recent launch of our new  ‘Exclusively Danetti with Julia Kendell’ range, we managed to catch up with Julia during the recent shoot for the launch of our collection. We had a chat with her to find out what she thought about the collaboration and the individual products.

Why did you choose to work with Danetti?

When I am designing an interior for a client I will only specify furniture from a supplier I can trust and who I know will be reliable. The furniture also has to be aesthetically beautiful, fit the brief and it’s also got to be good value. I have to be absolutely sure that it's going to arrive on time, in good order and should anything go wrong, I have to know that the company will be on it straight away. Danetti satisfies all those criteria so I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to collaborate on a furniture collection with them.

What elements of your personal design ethos have you incorporated into this range?

My personal ethos is all about creating an emotional connection both between the interior and the inhabitants who will be using that space. The reason that’s important is because in this day and age we're all so busy and we need a home that we can retreat to at the end of the day. Somewhere you feel safe, that's also energising. So for me creating this range of furniture, creates a perfect backdrop for home life that has a sense of energy about it. And that has been really important.

How would you sum up the range?

I’d sum up the range as being a fresh and robust collection combining organic materials and glossy surfaces. I've created something that’s really energising and is just a really fabulous collection for contemporary family living.

The Peacock blue is a beautiful accent - is it a bit of a signature colour of yours?

I really enjoy designing with blue. It’s a very calming colour and because of this and because it’s very easy on the eye. It means you can use quite punchy shades to create impact and depth in a scheme without it unbalancing the whole look of the scheme and without it drawing too much attention. So yes, it's just a fabulous colour. I love it!

What elements of the process of design do you enjoy the most?

I love the entire experience of designing and putting this collection together. It has been hugely exciting for me. Of course I suppose nothing beats the moment when you’ve done all the concept drawings, you’ve had all the meetings and then suddenly the pieces arrive and you can unwrap them and see them in the flesh. It's just so exciting.

How important was it to you that these products were affordable?

Affordable design has always been at the heart of my work. When I first started out in the industry a very long time ago it was very much an elitist sport. Only the very wealthy could afford to have really beautifully designed pieces of furniture and interiors and of course there's no reason why everybody shouldn’t have a beautiful home. So throughout my career, I’ve always championed really good quality design at good value.

What does good design mean to you?

Good design to me is creating a balance between something being aesthetically very pleasing (so it's satisfying all the senses I suppose, something that feels good, that’s tactile, that looks great, sometimes that smells great too) and also being functional and practical. You want something that makes you feel a whole emotional connection.

How do you see these products integrating with the modern family?

I think that the dining table and the space around it is really underestimated. In this day and age when families are so busy and when the illuminated screen is such a draw - we need to be able to have family time around the dining table. It’s one of those moments when we can really connect as a family. It’s the place where you have Xmas lunches and birthday dinners. You can sort out problems and share experiences. Frankly, it is where memories are made, family memories and that is so, so important.

What do you think of the bar stools?

I am particularly thrilled with the bar stools. It’s really difficult actually to find the perfect bar stool. One that you can move easily, is comfortable, looks great, but these bar stools I think are spot on. They’re very easy to move around. Plus, they’re light as anything but they are very robust and you know they are going to last and they look fantastic. Even just the tiniest detail like the beautiful stitching around the seat. They’re absolutely stunning -I'm so so pleased with them!

How about the sideboards:

The sideboards have been designed with detail in mind and they will satisfy even the most discerning client. The chamfered detail throughout the whole piece is just beautiful. Whats more the 'soft close' mechanism and the super smooth sliding door are great too. It’s just so lovely to use. I love the combination of the materials as well. The gloss, and the matt and the timber I think just works so beautifully together. And of course there are a lot of surprising little details as well like the mirrored backs on some of the pieces - just beautiful…

What do you like best about the table selection?

For the cost of the Arc round table, the price I think is quite amazing. I haven’t seen such beautiful veneer detailing on a table at that price - ever! So just how lovely to be able to have such a stunning piece in your kitchen or dining room. The Zen table is a contemporary spin on the classic trestle table it is the perfect size for a family or a group of friends. I wanted to keep the lines nice and simple and straightforward - it’s just perfect.

The chairs are so elegant, how do you feel about the results?

Comfort is so important when it comes to sitting at a dining table. The design of the Form Dining chair really focus's on this. It's available with and without arms and the detailing again is really really superior. Particularly the way the frame follows the curvature around the back, it’s just the most beautiful chair. Definitely designed with comfort very much in mind. We all like to spend time at the dinner table, nobody wants their friends or family to feel uncomfortable. Therefore the design makes you feel like you want to spend hours at the dining table. So there you have it! Our Exclusively Danetti range with TV Interior Designer and Presenter Julia Kendell in all it's glory. If you want to see more, head over to Danetti.com for more.

Our Top Tips on How to Properly Care for Faux Leather
September 11, 2015 at 2:42 pm 6
As we are big fans of faux leather here at Danetti, we thought we'd share our top tips on how to properly care for it with you! Not only is it soft, stylish and extremely durable, but with some useful tricks and tips you can help maintain the materials quality which will keep your furniture looking good for longer. Faux Leather is a big part of our product range, so we have first hand experience on how best to look after it. In this post, we’ll talk about the basics of faux leather to get a better understanding of how best to care for it. We’ll discuss a whole host of advice on caring for the material and the best means of protection from future wear and tear. Our 7 things to keep in mind when maintaining faux leather are located further down the page, but we recommend looking at the whole post to get a clearer understanding of the material and its qualities. Firstly, there are 2 main points to remember when dealing with Faux leather:
  1. It’s a non porous surface so most stains will sit on the top
  2. Don’t let it get too dry. If the material is allowed to get over dry then it can crack.
So, What is Faux Leather? All faux leathers are essentially a layer of synthetic material (a type of plastic) that’s embossed with a leather like grain and is backed with fabric. However, there are a range of different types and qualities – the most common being PVC (poly vinyl chloride), Polyurethane and Polyamide microfibre. There’s a huge variation on the market but we only use Polyurethanes, which we often refer to as PU. We prefer Polyurethanes as they are easier to care for and better for the environment than PVC. The reason this is relevant when looking after material is that although PU is more breathable than PVC, it is still classed as non-porous so marks will generally sit on the surface. That said, it is breathable so heat and moisture means that a stain can penetrate the material if the conditions are right (or wrong!) for you. Protection is key... Although leather and PU can look the same, in reality they are very different! Having said that, some of the principles of caring for leather can be applied to faux leather. A protective treatment is a great precaution but with a different effect: unlike with real leather, a protective treatment won’t penetrate and moisturise the faux leather, but rather will add a thin protective layer so that the surface is easier to clean. If marks are easier to clean to start with, there is less need for the harsher cleaners which will lead to drying - a big no no with faux leather. Here are some links to the products we have been told have been useful for the protection of faux leather (please note though that we don't endorse these products and can't be held responsible for the usage or results): http://www.leathercareandrepair.co.uk/faux_leather_help.php http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAUX-LEATHER-CARE-KIT-CLEANER-CONDITIONER-PROTECT-/260722348477 http://www.leathercareandrepair.co.uk/faux_leather_products.php   Do a regular very mild clean. Mild is the order of the day when cleaning faux leather as harsh detergents will cause drying. It’s a good idea to give the surface a regular once over to keep on top of general little marks that just build up with use. We recommend warm water with some washing up liquid and a non-abrasive cloth. Wring the cloth out so that it’s not dripping wet and wipe over. Follow up by drying off with a soft cloth such as a microfiber cloth. This stops general wear and tear and everyday marks from building up and making the surface look grubby.   7 things to keep in mind when maintaining faux leather...
  • Sunlight Direct sunlight can dry out faux leathers. If your dining table is in a sunny spot maybe try and rotate the chairs once a month so that the same ones are not fully in the mid day sun all the time.
  • Colour transference. Clothes that are indigo dyed (like jeans) or strong colours can transfer onto light colours. Be sure to give this a wipe as soon as you notice it, as it’s the kind of stain that will penetrate if left. A quick wipe down with a baby wipe after use should keep this at bay. It’s the kind of stain that only becomes obvious once it’s been there a while and by then it’s generally too late. The regular once over will also help this.
  • Test First Anything you put on your faux leather, try on a hidden part first just to check that there is no adverse reaction. Test it, let it dry and then try on the visible parts.
  • What product? When choosing a cleaning product, it’s best to ask yourself ‘would I put it on my skin / body’? If not, chances are it’s too harsh for your faux leather.
  • Never reach for the bleach Whatever the stain, don’t use bleach. Bleach is the most drying product you can put on faux leather and it will affect the structure of the fabric and it will become more susceptible to future marking. A small mark is probably easier to deal with and less noticeable than a bit patch that has been affected by bleach treatment. Even if it does remove the stain, that area is then more prone to cracking, plus the surface could be compromised such that future marks actually sink in more.
  • Soft Non abrasive cloths Never be tempted to rub / scrub the surface or use any kind of abrasive cloth or sponge.  Soft cloths and repeated circular motions is all you need. Scrubbing will crack the faux leather not remove the mark.
  • Clean after cleaning Whatever you use to clean a mark, whether it works or not, always give it a wipe afterward with mild detergent. The cleaners will do the job but they are not meant to be left on the surface for long periods of time.
Phew! that was a lot of information on faux leather. (is the word faux starting to sound strange to you too?!) So, to recap on what we’ve pinpointed: Treat faux leather like your skin – avoid it getting  it it too dry and don’t use anything too harsh like bleach.

Protecting the surface makes it easier and more effective to clean. Stains will sit on the top so protecting the surface will make cleaning an easier, less abrasive process.

Approach larger stains in parts. Patch clean one bit and then when you have a successful result, repeat on the other areas.

So there you have it, Danetti’s own run down of the best ways to care for and to protect faux leather. Reckon we’ve missed anything? or do you have your own remedy for cleaning that you're willing to share with the world! We’d love to hear some of your own hints and tips, including your opinions and experiences with faux leather furniture. Be sure to post your responses in the comments :)

We love hearing what colour combinations you think look best and as you’ll see, we have plenty of pieces to choose from. To get you started, we asked our stylist Jess to give a few tips on the best ways to style an occasional chair... Room Build Gif   Jess’ top 9  tips for styling with occasional chairs:
  1. Create a real presence by using symmetry in your room - two statement chairs side by side or either side of an occasional table will look stunning.Depending on your personal style you might like to ‘dress’ your lounge chair with a scatter cushion or two! I always try a scatter cushion on chairs and sofas as it will often make a chair look much more inviting.Light-Grey-and-Black
  2. A swivel occasional chair like our neat compact Mono chair is ideal in a bedroom, perfect for quick perching to take off or put on shoes, or just somewhere to relax. With it’s self correcting pedestal base (it always goes back to its original position) the rotating chair always looks tidy.
  3. An occasional chair is the perfect solution for introducing a statement piece in your room, something like our Canio or Wing Back leather chairs will blend with the existing scheme but add character and style.
  4. If your occasional chair is big enough, try styling it with two cushions in different sizes. So, try something like the 58 x 58 Tropical Velvet cushion with a 45 x 45 Plush Velvet cushion. This layered effect with added accents of colour will give you room a designer feel. If it’s not big enough then using the same cushions can be a good way to tie our occasional chair in with your sofa.
  5. Think about the colour and style of your room when choosing a new occasional chair. It might just be a simple choice of black or white, but if your scheme is on the cool side of the colour wheel, opt for a cool grey or if it is a warmer palette then clay grey is ideal for these tones, our Tivani armchair is a great choice as it will go with almost any existing scheme._MG_4755--Black
  6. Scatter cushions will unite any scheme and introduce accent colours into your home, so do remember to get cushions for your sofa too when styling your modern occasional chair and mix and match colours and patterns that blend well together.Cushion Grid
  7. Don’t worry if you already have a fabric sofa, faux leather and real leather chairs are the ideal choice for creating a sense of style and juxtaposition so typical of the styling you get from top interior designers - so be brave with your choices!_MG_4759-clay-grey
  8. If you are just looking to fill a space with something that looks stylish perhaps for a small nook, or maybe in a hallway, landing or study then definitely consider using one of our small occasional chairs, like the Mono chair.

We've decided to give away one of our bright summery dining sets to mark the start, albeit not the official one, of summer. All you have to to to enter to win is tell us which colour combination you like the best. It doesn't have to be one we have shown, we'd love to know what suits your style and how you would work this set into your home. To to with the Terni Table can choose from any of the Senn Chairs; The colourful ones, the Grey and White or the Oak and White. You can tell us on Facebook, or ping us an e-mail and sign up to the newsletter.

These are some of our team's picks:

Jess, Stylist - 'The Oak and white Senn chairs, it has a cool contemporary scandi feel'.

Becki, Customer Services - 'Yellow and blue, it's fresh and summery'

Nicki, Customer Services - 'I like the Grey and White Senn Chairs, all four the same.'

Tom, Technical Genuis  - 'Can i go with the Grey and White, two of each? I like the more simple look'. * I should point out that at the time of going to press he is wavering towards the red and white...indecisive.

Sarah, Product Team - 'i'd pick all Grey, because i have lots of other colours at home so i'd need to keep it a little more neutral'

Top Stylist’s Insider Secret – The Power of 3
May 8, 2015 at 3:09 pm 0
Assi White Gloss and Walnut Sideboard   Have you ever wondered whether there is some magical chemistry at work when you look around you? How come you have naturally chosen candlesticks either side of a centrepiece on your dining table? Did you mean to have two sconces either side of your decorative mirror? What made you go for three hanging pendants over your breakfast bar? Why not two or four? Well! Pssst! I will let you into a little secret, for some reason, we all veer towards the harmonious symmetry of three in our lives….it comforts us, but above all it pleases us both mentally and visually. Next time you are pouring over the pages of Elle Deco, Living Etc or Ideal Home or any of your other favourite interiors magazines – check out the decorating pages – open your eyes and you will see the Power of Three trick being used to great effect throughout!

When I first started styling, the first and most important lesson I was taught was the importance of the power of three. So, if you are styling a coffee table, let’s say, or a dressing table, you would group together three items.
powerful 3 make a statement

So, for a coffee table it might be a vase, a scented candle and a stack of books and on a dressing table possibly a lamp, a picture frame and a trinket box…the trick works in multiples, so you may use a couple of groupings of three across a wide surface. Having given this some thought, I asked my good friend Sarita Sharma what she thought about this number chemistry and we both agreed it's almost an unwritten rule! "I am always drawn towards this simple, numbers chemistry - In the styling world, symmetry is a natural, fool proof way to create a great look and using 3 seems to always work". -Sarita Sharma, Stylist, Ideal Home Magazine. The number three has been making waves since the very early days, in every aspect of the world’s culture, from religion (don’t forget the Holy Trinity) to design itself. It’s no accident that florists always choose three blooms in an arrangement rather than two or four, in kitchens around the world you will find proof of the power or three throughout recipes....it’s called a ‘tricolore salad’ for a reason! So when you come to organise, makeover or simply restyle your home – give the power of 3 a thought. Let’s start in your bedroom: it could be that you need a focal point to create some symmetry and drama - think about putting up three lovely canvases above the bed. If your sitting room is looking disjointed, why not strip out some of the occasional furniture and stick to three main pieces, maybe it's your sofa, with a coffee table and a lounge chair to give your room a clean grouping of three? Moving into your dining room, perhaps move away from convention and see if your chairs look better with three chairs either side of the table rather than having two chairs stuck on each end:
3 chairs either side, 3 colours - the chemistry works

3 chairs either side, 3 colours - the chemistry really works with our Fern Grey Gloss Dining Table and Eames Style Chairs.

Follow the rule and give your home a sprinkling of the powerful three! You will be fascinated how your groupings will start to work wonders with your interior decor, by creating harmony and well being.

So, why does this number work so well? It is proven that information and objects that appear in threes are more appealing, effective and memorable than other numbers of objects. Here are some examples, religious triptychs, three act plays, the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, (we three Kings!), Beginning, Middle and End, Trilogy, Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite – and so on. The number three just works! Using three in a room can totally change the dynamic and aesthetic appeal, determining the focal point and balancing it beautifully. Follow my five top tips to help you on your way and make it work at home. 1. To build up confidence, start with grouping your picture frames… groups of three can either be all the same size or use a collage effect with three different sized frames placed artistically together.
Picture grouping works well in 3's

2. Look around at your surfaces, start with your dressing table, coffee table or your sideboard. Group a table lamp with a vase and maybe a scented candle…vary the sizes so the combination is pleasing size and height wise.

3. Depending on how you are using the symmetry, it’s good to think carefully first. I usually recommend using a larger object in the middle of two smaller objects (two candlesticks either side of a larger centrepiece for example) if you are looking at dressing your walls or table top but in some situations two larger items either side will work well (for example the cushions on your bed) this is usually due to being able to layer the cushions.
A harmonious grouping

4. Creating a designer look is all about style and impact. If you are thinking of dressing your bed with scatter cushions, make a bold statement with two large matching cushions with one smaller one in the middle - you can try this on your sofa as well!
Cushions are a great way of using 'The Power of Three' styling technique.

  5. Be careful when you are grouping three different objects - you must always consider the dimensions so that they sit harmoniously together.

It's possible to style different items and still create a harmonious effect, like on our Emilia White Oak Sideboard.

So there you have it, all you could ever need to know about using 'The Power of Three'. Have we inspired you to try this look yourself? Let us know in the comments! :)
