Your Mattress Buying Questions, Answered.
October 17, 2019 at 4:14 pm 0

Last week we dispelled some common mattress myths. This week we’ll be answering some questions that are often asked when deciding which mattress is best for you. We’ll also give you some top tips to look out for when buying your mattress.

Q: How much should I spend on a mattress?
A: One of the most important factors for many people when buying a mattress is the cost. Spend whatever you can afford because this is an investment piece that you’ll feel the benefit of every night (and every day) for the next seven years or more. On a cost-per-night basis the price of a mattress isn’t as much as you’d think and is entirely worth it for a good night’s sleep, and ultimately for your health and wellbeing. Although your bed will be the focal point, and you want it to look fabulous, your mattress is where you’ll actually be sleeping - so putting the majority of your budget there is a no brainer.

Did you Know: The Cost per night, per person of our mattresses ranges from just 6p to 16p, and even less if you take advantage of our offer and buy your bed and mattress together.

Don’t forget, we offer 0% finance on purchases over £1500, perfect if you’re looking to buy your mattress and bed together.

Q: Which spring type should I look for?
A: Spring coil mattresses come in two types – Open coil or Pocket spring.
Open coil mattresses have springs that are known to dip or sag causing people to roll-together, as well as becoming lumpy over time. They don’t tend to keep their shape for as long and movement from your partner is common - not ideal if you’re a light-sleeper.
Pocket spring mattresses encase every spring within it’s own ‘sock’ or pocket. This keeps the springs in place allows every spring to move independently which maintains the shape and support of the mattress. This means you get a longer lifecycle from the mattress as well as a more supportive and comfortable night’s sleep, not feeling the movement of your partner.

Spring fact: Every one of our pocket springs has 1m of wire. The length of the wire is what absorbs the weight put on the mattress.

Pillow top mattress

Pocket Springs - Every spring is encased in it's own pocket. On the the Ultimate Pillow top you have a separate spring layer within the pillow top itself.

Q: My partner is a back sleeper and I sleep on my side, does that matter?
A: The tension of the mattress is such an important factor here. A medium tension mattress has enough ‘give’ so it doesn’t put too much pressure on your joints, essential for a side sleeper, but it still has enough support for a back sleeper. Flipping and rotating your mattress as recommended will keep the comfort layers evenly distributed and provide the optimum levels of support needed for a good night’s sleep on both sides, however you sleep.

Q: I suffer from allergies, which mattress is best?
A: So here comes the gruesome bit – most mattress related allergies or reactions are caused by unmentionables left behind by dustmites (don’t ask…google it). The best way to avoid your mattress getting dust mites is to frequently air it and use a mattress protector. Some manufacturers claim to offer anti-dust mite fabric, however, to keep our mattresses as natural as possible they’re not post-treated (which can leave a bit of a nasty smell too!). Look for a mattress that can be flipped and rotated, such as the Tranquil Indulgence or Boutique Opulence.

Another thing to look for is Vents, which will allow air to circulate around the mattress.

Breathable mattress

Side Vents allow air to circulate through the mattress.

Q: How long will my mattress last?
A: Experts recommend replacing your mattress every seven years, this is because comfort and support levels aren’t quite what they used to be seven years down the line. Not to mention the hygiene factor of a seven-year old mattress! Your mattress may last even longer of you look after it correctly. We’re so confident with our new mattress range that we’ve included a full warranty for the lifetime of the mattress.

Q: Will the mattress fit my bed?
A: All of our supportive mattresses are made to fit the Danetti bed range, is based on standard UK bed sizing. If you are looking at a mattress and bed from different suppliers then we recommend that you carefully measure your bed before ordering your mattress to ensure it will fit. The part you need to measure is the inside measurement, not the outer size.

It’s worth noting that there is some tolerance with mattress sizing, which is to allow the mattress to relax over time, and also to allow for the fact that when in use the mattress will be wider than when no one is laying on it.

Q: Does it matter what type of bed I have?
A: Consider your bed when buying your mattress because the two things work together. Take a look at your bed and check what kind of base it has. If it has a flat board base or flat slats, they won’t have any extra give or resistance, so your mattress will need to do all the work. In this case you need to reply on only your mattress to provide the comfort. To give you the best comfort and support levels, check out the super affordable Comfort Bliss or more premium Tranquil Indulgence mattresses which would be ideal on this type of bed frame.

A sprung slat bed frame is the best option, this is to allow your bed and mattress to work in total harmony. Whatever comfort benefits your mattress has will be enhanced but sprung slats. Sprung slats are slightly bowed, think of it like a shock absorber, pushing back against the mattress and amplifying the springs to give a more supportive night’s sleep.

Q: Do I have to flip my mattress?
A: To maintain your mattress for as long as possible, it will need turning or rotating as recommended. We suggest you do this every six weeks or so. Mattresses with all of the comfort layers on the top (Plush Deluxe, Ultimate Pillow-top, Sumptuous Luxury Quilted and Forever Wellness) will only need rotating.

Tip: Think realistically about how often you are likely to flip your mattress, or have flipped your current mattress. For absolute optimum maintenance there we do say that Flip and Rotate is best, but rotating only Is still really valuable when it comes to maintenance. When you have a mattress that you can flip and rotate you have the comfort layers split between the two sides. But if realistically you’re only going to flip it once a year then invest in a rotate only mattress, with all the comfort layers on one side – otherwise you will have effectively half your mattress that you never get to lay on.

Q: I sometimes suffer with a bad back, which mattress should I buy?
A: Lots of retailers out there claim to offer an orthopaedic mattress, there really is no such thing - and that is a fact. Just because they’re using medical sounding terminology doesn’t mean its medically recommended. A common misconception is that a firm mattress going to be the best option for a bad back. Everyone is different and you need the best support for you. A medium tension mattress is best suited to someone of an average weight and build, as the springs on a firm mattress won’t push back enough to give the right level of support. If you do like a firmer sleep, take a look at our Forever Wellness mattress which has a nested spring construction to give a fantastic level of support whilst still offering multiple foam comfort layers to contour to the shape of your spine.

Q: How do I clean / care for my mattress:
A: Look after your mattress and it’ll definitely look after you. There are just a few simple things you can do to keep your mattress on top form:
1) Flip and/or rotate as recommended to prevent dipping and keeping the mattress evenly settled;

2) use a mattress protector to reduce the amount of sweat, oil and skin that is absorbed by the mattress during the night, as well as creating a barrier against dust mites.

3) every now and again strip all the sheets off your bed, throw open the windows and allow the fresh air to get to any nasties that might be living in there and to get that fresh air circulating through the vents

4) If you do get a mark or spill on your mattress clean it damp cloth and mild detergent (not harsh detergents or chemical cleaners as these can damage the fabric and stitching), ensure the bed is completely dry before putting the sheets back on.

5) lastly where possible try to avoid using a vacuum cleaner, this can permanently alter the make-up of the comfort layers, if you have to vacuum it, use a lower setting or give it a gentle Dustbuster instead.

We hope that helps! If you have any questions, give us a call and our Mattress Experts will be happy to help. 020 3588 1380

True or False? Top Mattress Myths
October 11, 2019 at 5:49 pm 0
With so many options out there, buying a mattress can be a daunting task for many people. If you’re buying for your master bedroom then you’re going to be using it everyday so you really need to make sure it’s perfect; if it’s for the guest bedroom, you’ll want your guests to go home feeling refreshed, right? With our comfort mattress range, we’re here to make life a little easier for you and clear up some common misconceptions about mattresses, helping you to improve sleep and buy the mattress thats perfect for you.

1. A Firm Mattress Is Better For Your Back: FALSE

A mattress that is good for your back is one that supports your spine. When you are lying down, your spine should be straight - the springs need weight to engage them and support the contours of the body. Spring engagement is when weight causes the springs to contract and release, pushing back against the sleeper and therefore giving the best support. A medium tension mattress is better suited to someone of an average weight and build, as the springs on a firm mattress won’t push back enough to give the right level of support. A good night’s sleep also depends on the position you sleep; if you’re a side sleeper, a medium tension mattress is more suitable to give an extra bit of squidge, putting less pressure on your joints and making you feel a lot more refreshed in the morning. The firmness or ‘tension’ rating of your mattress is all dependant on the preference. Often when people say 'i like a firm mattress' what they are actually mean is that they like a mattress that is supportive, possibly because their current mattress isn't. No one likes to feel like they sink right into their mattress. You want the comfort but with a level of support and it's the support that is good for your back. A great option for if you like a firmer comfort level is our Forever Wellness mattress. With a nested spring construction and multiple foam comfort layers, with varying densities, it's designed to have a more supportive firmer feel.

2: A Tufted Top Mattress is More Comfortable: FALSE

This really is down to personal preference. A tufted top gives high ‘lofts’ of comfort, this is the most traditional mattress style top and what most people are probably used to.
Tufted style mattress

A Tufted Mattress: The spring core and comfort layers are laced front to back, creating a pillowy surface.

The more luxurious the tufted mattress, the more pronounced the lofts. Ours go from the Comfort Bliss right up to the Boutique Opulence, depending what level of Luxury you are looking for. Our most indulgent mattress with a deeply indulgent hand tufted top:
Top Quality Mattress

Boutique Opulence: Hand tufted through luxurious silk and wool comfort layers.

The alternatives to a tufted mattress are:
Quilted Top Mattress:
This type of mattress offers a flatter feel compared to a tufted option; it would appeal to someone looking for an alternative to a memory foam mattress, moulding closely to the shape of your body with the extra comfort layers inside.

A Quilted Mattress: The comfort layers are quilted together and joined to the side of the mattress resulting in a soft, level surface.

The Sumptuous Luxury Quilted Mattress is perfect if you like a luxurious topper on your mattress as you have this soft, topper-like feel built in.
A Pillow Top Mattress
A Pillow Top Mattress is almost like a mini mattress on top of your mattress. Our Ultimate Pillow Top Mattress has all the deep comfort and support of the most premium mattress but with shallower lofts. The Pillow top is made up of mini-springs resulting in a shallower tufted top, so you will feel peaks of comfort while still getting that extra support from the mini-springs.
Pillow Top Mattress

A Pillow Top Mattress gives you double comfort but with shallower surface lofts.

3. More Springs Are Better: TRUE...ALMOST.

The more pocket springs your mattress has, the more support, resilience and weight distribution you will get. More springs means your mattress will retain its shape for longer, so you won’t find yourself unintentionally rolling into the centre. More springs also means that the weight will be distributed evenly. So if your partner moves in the night, you won't be disturbed. Our new mattress range only uses pocket springs which are kept in place by their own individual ‘sock’ so every spring moves independently, ranging from the 1000 pocket spring Comfort Bliss to 2400 on our Boutique Opulence mattress, you know you’ll be getting a supportive night’s sleep with our mattresses. TIP: Don't be blinded by bold claims of high spring counts! The reason we don't have a 5000 spring count mattress in our range is that over a certain level you cannot feel the benefit. That's a fact! If you are thinking of choosing a high spring count mattress make sure you ask about construction - stacked spring layers can result in a high spring count (seems good, right?) but unless there is variation in tensions there is zero benefit to your comfort.

4. A Pillow-Top Mattress Will Be Too Hot: FALSE

Everyone is different, we all regulate heat different levels. With a mattress, heat is generated through direct contact to the surface of the mattress and with some foam topped synthetic mattresses this heat increases further. However, our Ultimate Pillow-top mattress from our comfort mattress range has individual mini-springs and a wool layer. Don't think of Wool as hot. Being natural, the wool is able to breathe and allows air to flow through the pillow-top meaning it won’t get too hot and will improve sleep for you.

Ultimate Pillow Top: Multiple comfort layers featuring natural breathable wool.

5. A New Mattress Will Take Time To Get Used To: TRUE

As with a new pair of shoes, a new mattress will take some time to bed in (excuse the pun!). Remember, you’ve been sleeping on your old mattresses every day for years, it has moulded and contoured to your body shape. Your new mattress will settle too, this is perfectly normal and is a sign that your mattress is working properly. Similar to wearing in a new pair of shoes, it could take a couple of days or a couple of weeks, but we’re confident you’ll love our new support mattress range which are all handmade with love and care in the UK. How To Get an Insta-worthy Bedroom
July 5, 2019 at 2:45 pm 0

With Instagram becoming an amazing source of interior inspiration, more and more of you are creating home accounts and getting stuck in with a rapidly growing community of interior lovers.

Amalfi Kingsize Storage Bed in Peacock Velvet

But how do you get that Insta-worthy bedroom shot without spending thousands on re-decorating (or having enough followers to get everything gifted to you)? We've got a few tips and inspiration from some of our amazing customers, plus some insider secrets from our Stylist to help you create that Insta-worthy bedroom.

Chic and Subtle

The first style we're looking at is super easy to achieve and requires little more than a simple velvet bed and a muted feature wall.

Choosing a great quality headboard with subtle detailing is the key to creating a calming bedroom interior. Our Turin and Paolo Beds both have super soft velvet upholstery and subtle yet very effective details.

The Turin has a neat pipe around the headboard, while the Paolo has a subtle stitch detail and gentle wings to create a cosy cocoon feel.

@alishialove has paired the soft feather grey velvet of our Turin with the smokey green feature wall.

@moderntownhome has gone for a very similar look, with the Paolo bed and a clay pink statement wall.

The soft feather grey velvet of both the Turin and Paolo work so well against muted wall colours due to its warmer undertones. Choose a colour with a slight grey tint to create that calming and serene atmosphere.

When styling a bedroom like this, choose natural woods or stick to simple white furniture so as to not distract from your statement wall and super soft bed. Try to avoid too many clashing textures- a chunky throw at the end of the bed will help soften the look, but stick to one or two textures to keep your space calm.

Stylists Top Tip: When creating a calming bedroom, always choose warmer tones and stick to a very simple colour palette. Avoid using too many different colours as this can create a visually stimulating space, which is not ideal for a bedroom.

Mid-Century Modern

Mid-century styled spaces are still huge in the world of interiors, with new twists always appearing to create a more modern look. This gorgeous bedroom from @appleton2plus_morrishomes has just the right amount of mid-century styling with the side tables and lamps, while the Amalfi bed in Peacock brings that modern twist.

The Amalfi Bed in Peacock goes perfectly with the dark feature wall.
A touch of wood brings a mid-century vibe, while the colour and panelling of the Amalfi headboard support the modern styling.

You can be more playful with prints and textures in a mid century style home. Pair geometrics with tribal prints to really mix things up. Remember to keep your prints focused to one area, and let the design of your furniture do the rest of the talking.

Maximalist Bedroom

Maximalism is becoming more and more popular in our homes, with many of us seeking out ways to make our homes more personal. (Find out more about maximalist style here). However, use a toned down version of maximalism in your bedroom to ensure this remains a calming and relaxing zone.

@lifeatno.15 Has created this dramatic style with a bold floral mural wallpaper.

@lifeatno.15 has perfected a subtle maximalist look but pairing an oversized floral mural wallpaper with a super soft and silky velvet bed.

By choosing wallpaper in a bold print but with harmonious colours creates a calming vibe while remaining a true style statement. For an extra element to your maximalist style, choose a larger bed to make more of a design statement.

Stylist Top Tip: Pick out one or two colours from a bold wallpaper to use throughout the room. The colours you choose here will greatly affect the overall style. For example, @lifeatno.15 has pulled out the blush pink and grey to create a soft, feminine look. However, if she had chosen the subtle shades of cream and green this look overall would be much more muted and minimal.

How to Declutter Your Bedroom and Get A Great Nights Sleep.
April 18, 2019 at 4:16 pm 0

When it comes to getting a good nights sleep, we're all guilting of not paying enough attention to the little things that make a huge difference.

Turin Storage Bed in Shadow Grey Velvet

In this blog, we're going to teach two things. The first will be how to declutter your bedroom and create a calming, serene environment. The second will be our top 10 tips, tried and tested, to getting a great nights sleep, ensuring you wake up refreshed and energised to be productive and live life to the fullest.

Decluttering Your Bedroom

The first thing to do when it comes to clearing out your bedroom is to look at the furniture you have in your space. If your room is a riot of mismatched furniture filling every available corner, it's going to look, and feel, cluttered.

Mellow Velvet Bed in Teal

Before we get into the detail of the general "clutter" we have in our bedrooms, we need to make the space as simple, clean-lined and efficient as possible. That bench at the end of your bed may look great, but if it's not serving a purpose it's taking up space and feeling messy.

In your bedroom, regardless of size, all you need is the following:

  • Comfy Bed
  • Bedside Tables
  • Dresser
  • Wardrobe
  • Lighting

If you have the space, you may want to introduce a statement chair or a dressing table, but the less we have in our bedrooms the better.

Carina Bed in Ocean Velvet

It's key to keep your furniture unfussy and neutral. Although that pink painted dresser with gold inlay looks amazing, it's not going to do your head much good when you're trying to relax. Instead, stick to soft neutrals and natural textures. If you want to introduce a splash of colour, save this for your bed or bedding, and keep the rest simple.

Storage Furniture

As we tend to have a lot of stuff in our bedrooms, be sure to look for clever storage solutions in your furniture. Think about bedside tables with drawers, Fitted wardrobes or a bed with hidden storage.

Mellow Velvet Bed in Pepper Grey

We're going to focus on beds, as there is a wide array of different options you can choose which have maximum storage to suit any look you're after.

Under-bed Storage

If you prefer a lighter look, choose a bed with enough clearance under to fit handy under-bed storage boxes. Just be sure to choose good quality storage boxes, as these will be seen.

Paolo Bed in Feather Grey Velvet

Clear boxes seem like a great idea but you will be showing off the clutter. Instead, opt for a solid colour box or white drawer on wheels to keep your room looking simple and de-cluttered.

Our Hector Bed is a great option if you want to stick to a streamlined look but be able to store things under your bed. If you want to keep your space open you can explore other storage solutions, otherwise this bed is a great option for minimal storage.

Hector Bed in Ash Grey

The Mellow Bed is also great for under-bed storage, but makes a little more of a statement with its plush velvet curved headboard.

Bed with Drawers

If you want a bit more depth and easy access storage, think about a divan bed with drawers. Our Myla bed is fully velvet, so not only looks great, but also means you can quickly and easily access anything tucked away in the handy drawers.

Myla Storage Bed in Feather Grey velvet

Historically a divan bed means you need a slightly dated and tricky to use valance. The beauty of our Myla bed, and all of our beds, is that the base is wrapped in the same plush velvet, creating a really chic and simple look.

nce. The beauty of our Myla bed, and all of our beds, is that the base is wrapped in the same plush velvet, creating a really chic and simple look.

Myla Storage Bed in Pewter Velvet

Built-in drawers are great for storing clothes, shoes or extra bedding as you can quickly and easily get whatever you need without crawling under the bed. whats more- your bits will be protected from dust keeping them clean and fresh.

Storage Bed

Finally, most popular in our bed range is the storage bed. You maximise your storage space by having almsot the enture size of your matress as extra storage space.

Amalfi Storage Bed in Peacock Velvet

Again, this type or storage is ideal for extra bedding and towels if your home doesn't have an airing cupboard, or to keep your summer wardrobe clean and fresh during those long winter months.

Manolo Storage bed in Pewter Velvet

The Amalfi, Manolo and Turin beds are ideal options for maximum storage. Simple lift the slatted base to access your bits and bobs.

Turin Storage Bed in Feather Grey Velvet

Our storage beds have been carefully and thoughtfully constructed using high quality hydraulic pistons, allowing for a smooth and sturdy opening. This means you can easily lift your bed up without taking the full weight, and that your bed will stay up without you having to hold it up.

Bedroom Decluttering

Now you have your furniture and storage sorted, lets look at what we can clear out from our bedrooms.

Rene Bed in Midnight Velvet

What do you use your room for? I'd imagine it's for sleeping, relaxing and getting dressed. The only things we should keep in our rooms are:

  • Clothes- neatly tidied away in our wardrobe and drawers.
  • Beauty products- should be displayed nicely on a bedside surface or managed in drawers for easy access but minimal clutter. Only keep the essentials in your bedroom.
  • Books- keep a few of your recently reads close by. Don't keep your entire book collection in your bedroom- it will only collect dust and make your room feel messy.
  • Clocks and lamps- should be small and well coordinated to the rest of your decor.

Top Tip: Keep your bedside tables clear by choosing pendant lamps. This will free up your surface, making it feel less cluttered.

  • Photos- keep a couple of your favourite pictures of your loved ones nearby.

That should be all you need in your bedroom. Anything else, either clear it out or think logically and store in a more suitable room, like the kitchen, living room or study.

What To Look For When Buying a Bed

A high quality, comfy bed is a must for getting a good nights sleep. There are a few key features to look out for which will result in a comfortable bed, and therefore a great nights sleep.

Pedro Storage Bed in Ash Grey Fabric

All of our bed frames have sprung slats that have been designed to increase the overall comfort of the bed. This is because your bed frame is effectively helping your mattress be in the best, most supportive position. Sprung slats are a really premium and considered feature that will help you get the most out of your bed and mattress.

You also want to make sure you have a really high quality, comfortable mattress. A pocket sprung mattress offers optimal comfort and stability, and usually comes in a variety of different firmness's.

Mellow Bed in Teal Velvet

Where possible you should try to test a mattress before you buy, but if you're buying online, check the returns policy carefully!

For extra comfort or to update an older mattress, look at investing in a mattress topper. These are available in many different materials, from memory foam to feather. Whatever you choose you'll be adding an extra layer of comfort and support to your bed.

How To Get a Good Nights Sleep

A high quality bed, comfy mattress and clear and decluttered bedroom will do wonders for your sleep quality, however if we don't take note of our behaviours throughout the day, all that hard work can be easily undone.

Mellow Bed in Ochre Velvet

Modern technology makes switching off very hard, with emails pinging up all evening, instagram and TV shows keeping us "entertained", our brains have little chance to wind down at the end of the day.

To ensure a great nights sleep, try these 8 simple tips:

  1. Go to bed and get up the same time each day. That includes the weekend. If we get into a routine, our body clock will kick into gear and know when rest is coming. This, in turn, makes waking up much easier and leading to a more productive day.
  2. Reduce screen time. We may think scrolling through Insta is a calming thing to do, but its the complete opposite. The images we're viewing are very visually impactful, and the blue light emitted from our phones is scientifically proven to stop us from switching off and sleeping better. Avoid using your phone 2 hours before bed, and try reading a book in a softly lit room instead.
  3. Practice sleep hygiene. Experts say our bed should be used for sleeping and sex only. So if you're partial to watching TV in bed or reading a book, try going without for a few weeks and see how you feel. Remove the TV from your bedroom to remove temptation and give it a go.
  4. Watch what you eat. Cutting back on caffeine and sugars before bed it a well-known method for a better nights sleep, however we really shouldn't eat anything at least 2 hours before we go to bed. We need to give our digestive systems a chance to work before our body goes into rest mode.
  5. Wind down and try to reduce stress. By turning off our phones and avoiding highly stimulating activities such as watching tv will help relax the mind. If you struggle with stress and anxiety, try meditating or again, reading in the hours before bed. A hot bath and soothing music will also help relax you.
  6. Fill your home with aromatherapy. The smell of lavender is proved to instantly make you feel calmer, so look to invest in a good room diffuser, or a nice pillow spray to help wind down.
  7. Keep your bedroom cool. We all know our bodies need to cool before we sleep, so keep your bedroom a little bit cooler than the rest of your house. Not only will you sleep better, but it will make getting into bed that little bit cosier.
  8. Practice Mindfulness. If like me, you find it really hard to switch off, practice mindfulness before bed. This could be a wide array of things, but if your laying in bed struggling to drop off due to a whirring mind, try to refocus your attention. Focus on what you can hear, be it people outside of a ticking clock. I think focusing on the clock ticking in my room helps calm me. As I count the ticks of the second hand I soon drift off with ease.

Amalfi Storage Bed in Feather Grey Velvet

We've also asked some of you what helps you drift off at night. Although everyone is different, it's worth giving these a try also;

  • Get in some exercise during the day. You'll naturally tire yourself out helping to fall asleep and stay asleep.
  • Try meditation apps such as Headspace or Insight Timer. These guided meditation apps will help you refocus your attention and forget the worries of the day.
  • Listening to a podcast can help with stress levels throughout the day anyway, but listening to one at night will again help calm your mind and focus on something else.

There you have it. By decluttering your room and practising some self care in the evenings, we should all be sleeping much better and waking up brighter, more refreshed and kinder, ready to face the day ahead.

We would love to know how you guys declutter your rooms and your sleep tips, so leave us a comment below. Don't forget to check us out on Facebook and Instagram and tag us in your pictures using #mydanetti.

Contemporary Beds: Ultimate Bed Buying Guide
January 18, 2019 at 2:17 pm 0
Mellow Teal Velvet King Size BedBuying a bed is a big investment for your home. And it's where we spend most of our time too. With most of us spending between 7 to 9 hours a night curled up under the covers, you'll want to make sure the bed you choose is as comfortable, supportive and long-lasting as it can be. If you're a little overwhelmed by the number of contemporary beds available, take a look at our bed buying tips and you'll be choosing the perfect piece in no time!

Double, King or Super King?

TYPE Double King Super King
AVG. SIZE 4ft6 UK Double. 135cm x 190cm / 4'6 x 6'3" 5ft UK King size. 150cm x 200cm / 5' x 6'6" 6ft UK Super King size. 180cm x 200cm / 6' x 6'6"
WEIGHT BEARING 500kgs 500kgs 500kgs

Double Bed

A double bed is a great size for a spare room or as an upgrade from a single bed in a room where space is a little limited. A double can comfortably fit two people and is a popular choice.

King Size Bed

If you’ve got the space, consider a king size bed frame. A traditional king size bed may be too bulky for a small bedroom, however, they do offer that extra bit of sleeping and potential storage space.

Super Kingsize Bed

The extra inches of a super king size bed frame will not only keep you well supported, it also gives you and your sleeping partner that extra bit of room to move around and get comfortable without disturbing one another.

Top Tip: If you’re upgrading your bed size  - think about your bedding! A king size isn’t too much bigger than a double, so you might be able to pass. However, jumping from a double to a super king you’ll need some new sheets.

Consider Your Space:

    • It’s best to leave a minimum of 76cm at all sides of your bed so you can get around it comfortably. This will also allow enough room for bedside tables, wardrobe/cabinets, doors to open etc.
    • Could you downsize your current bedframe to make more use of your room? Or upsize if you have space? Consider what’s more important, extra flooring or extra room in bed.
  • If you don't yet have a bed in your room, get a feel for the sizing by using masking tape or a piece of cardboard to mark out where it’ll sit.

Questions to Ask Before You Buy:

    • Does the bed come with a headboard?
    • Are there storage options?
    • What’s my budget?
    • Do I have space to open the storage options?
    • How will the bed be delivered - fully assembled, or is assembly needed?
    • Is a mattress included?
    • What does the bed's guarantee cover, and for how long?
  • Will it fit through my door?

Choosing Your Bed Frame

Height: The height of the frame and the matress will affect how easy it is to get in and out of the bed. There’s not right or wrong, just what suits you and your space. Headboards: A tall headboard will add both impact and grandeur to any bedroom interior, whereas a shorter headboard will help to open up the space. Contemporary beds are available in a variety of designs so you can realy have some fun with your styling.  Structure: No one wants a bed that feels wobbly or creaky every time someone rolls over! That’s why it’s important to check the bedframe. Ask yourself:
    • How is it constructed?
    • What’s holding it in place?
  • What materials have been used?
A selection of our contemporary beds are constructed of bowed beech slats. These then slot into place onto aluminium base rails, using sturdy plastic fittings to support your mattress. This helps to keep it in the most supportive and comfortable position. It’s factors like this that ensure you’re choosing a supportive and quality bed, so they’re important to check. Flooring: beds are weighty pieces of furniture so you’ll want to protect the flooring underneath. Floor protectors on the feet, or having a rug or carpet are all simple solutions to keep your flooring looking its best.

Top Tip: When it comes to assembling a slat frame bed, pre-assemble your bed slats and then put the bed together, rather than attaching them one by one when the frame is in place. This will save both time and effort!

Contemporary Beds & Simple Storage

Everyday Access vs Longer Storage

What you want to store in your bed will help you choose the type of storage you need. If you’re looking to house clothes you regularly need, opt for a bed with drawers as this allows for easy access. Items you want to store for longer periods of time, like winter coats and bedding, would be better stored in an ottoman bed as this offers more support and space.

The internal storage for the Amalfi is a great space saver.

Top Tip: With a fixed frame bed, consider the height from the floor to the underside of the bed as this may allow for space for storage underneath.

Snooze in Style

Once you know your sizing, you can move onto the fun stuff- the styling! And with our Stylist’s bedroom cheatsheet, creating a cosy bedroom interior couldn't be easier….
  • Stick to a minimal colour palette - Choose colours within the same shade to create a complementary look and create a serene setting.
  • You can’t beat fresh white sheets - you can then add a couple of tonal cushions for an added element of colour- but simple is always best.
    • Clash your textures - for example, balance the smoothness of velvet with a chunky knit and cool metallics like brass and copper for an effortlessly trendy and designer look.
    • Less is always more - The more bits and bobs you have on display, the more cluttered your bedroom will feel. Invest in trendy boxes or side tables with drawers to hide all those unsightly necessities. Tidy room, tidy mind.
    • Play with proportions - Avoid an expanse of bed linen by breaking it up with throws and cushions.
    • Wooden floors need a rug - You can choose an area rug, to sit under and around the base of your bed, or a couple of runners either side, just to keep your toes toasty on cold mornings.
    • Warm things up with chunky knits and sheepskin rugs. You don't want your bedroom to feel cold and uninviting.
  • Style your bedside tables simply - a simple stack of your favourite books, a pretty vase and a relaxing candle should be more than enough.

Care & Cleaning

Velvet Bed Frame

Velvet upholstery is far easier to clean and maintain than you may think. Firstly, the 100% polyester short pile velvet we use for our range of furniture has been rub tested to 40,000 rubs, so you know it’s far from delicate. It’s best to act as soon as a spill occurs, as it’s far easier to clean velvet before the mark sinks through to penetrate the base cloth.
  1. To wipe away marks, use an absorbent cloth or paper towel to soak up the spillage. Dab the surface rather than rubbing as this will better soak up the liquid.
  2. To clean your velvet furniture, all you need to use is a soft cloth and some warm soapy water, wiping the fabric in a circular motion.
  3. Then, leave the material to air dry or use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
  4. You can also vacuum your velvet upholstery by using the handheld nozzle. This will better collect any dust or bits that have been caught up in the pile. Be sure to use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum as this will be much softer on your velvet and avoid any unwanted marks.
If you feel your velvet upholstery has lost a bit of its sheen, have no fear. You can use a steamer to restore its signature shine by keeping the nozzle moving across the velvet at a moderate pace. Move in the direction of the nap and hold the steamer about an inch away from the fabric for the best results. Once completely dry, brush the material in the direction of the nap using a soft-bristled hairbrush. We also suggest regularly brushing your velvet bed frame with a velvet brush or soft clothes brush, going in the direction of the nap.

Fabric Bed Frame

Our melange fabric bed frames are upholstered in a fabric made from single or spun melange yarn. You can tell it apart from other multi-coloured or dyed fabrics as you can see varying colour flecks, rather than it being one solid colour.

Spot Cleaning

Spot cleaning your bed frame is probably your best option, as it's unlikely you'll need to go ahead and deep clean the whole frame. To do this:
  1. For any small little marks, you can usually clean them off with some warm soapy water- as long as you catch them quick enough! Put 1 tablespoon of dish soap (such as Fairy) into 2 cups of warm water.
  2. Take a clean white cloth and dab it into your soapy water. Pat over the stain (don't rub) and use a dry white cloth to absorb the water. Repeat this 3-4 times until stain has gone.
  3. If you have a slightly more stubborn stain, then try adding 1x tablespoon of white vinegar into your soapy solution. White vinegar is a great household cleaner and can be used in all sorts of cleaning solutions. Don’t worry about the vinegar smell, as this will disappear once dry

We've all seen how to style a sideboard, coffee tables and shelves. But when it comes to bedroom styling, it's not enough just to get the furniture right. Styling your bedroom correctly will transform it from a place just to sleep, to where you want to spend your time. It's these simple, homely touches that will finish off your bedroom and add plenty of personality.   Bedroom styling: Rene bed in midnight blue velvet

Rene Velvet Bed in Midnight

We've recently added a collection of beds to the Danetti family. So what better way to show you two different looks than with our new range of velvet beds! Available in Double, King and Superking, you're bound to find the bed of your dreams.

Bedroom Styling Essentials

Before we get into interior bedroom trends, you need to know your styling basics. No bedroom is complete with the following:
  • Decent Mattress
  • High-Quality Duvet and Pillows
  • Statement Bed (from Danetti)
  • Lighting
  • Soft furnishings
It may seem obvious, but without one of these elements, your room can feel stark, cold and very uninviting. Regardless of your personal interior style, these are the five must-haves when it comes to how to style a bed and bedroom.

Moody Bedroom Styling

A key trend for interiors right now is dark, moody and rich colours. By using a dark colour in the bedroom, you will create the illusion of more space. All the while creating a cosy, snug room you can't wait to be in. Although the thought of painting your bedroom black can be scary, that doesn't mean your room will feel gothic and dark.   Rene bed in midnight blue velvet

Top Tip: Offset dark walls with white bedding and light textures. Choosing lighter elements will lift the room and make your chosen colour really stand out.

The Rene Bed in Midnight Velvet sits beautifully against our Black Blue wall, as the curves of the headboard pick up light and add depth and tone. If, for example, you had a dark blue fabric headboard against a nearly black wall, it could look flat and lacking in interest. The way the velvet picks up the light helps to show the shape of the bed, drawing your focus here, rather than the dark walls.   Rene bed in midnight blue velvet

If black walls aren't for you, look at dark greys, berries, browns or blues to create the same look. Just be sure to complement the colour of your chosen bed. It's easier to paint your walls than buy a new bed!

Bedroom Styling Tips

When you come to simple bedroom decorating ideas and adding that personal touch, remember to follow these top styling rules:
  • Stick to a minimal colour palette. When you have a statement bed, you don't want your styling to overpower your headboard. Choose colours within the same shade to create a complementary look and create a serene setting.
  • You can't beat fresh white sheets. White sheets are a classic. When you want your bed to stand out, keep bedding simple. Add a couple of tonal cushions for an added element of colour- but simple is always best.
  • Clash your textures. Velvet beds are beautiful and look super luxe. However, if you're after a softer, more relaxed look, balance the smoothness of velvet with a chunky knit and cool metallics like brass and copper. These metallic finishes will lift the styling and add a layer of luxe.

  • Mimic shapes. Where the Rene bed has an Art Deco-inspired curved headboard, we've chosen the Pablo table lamps as our bedside lights. The spherical shade and arched marble base mimic the shape of the Rene bed, tying the look together. The marble texture also adds another modern art deco vibe.
  • Less is always more. Feel free to add pictures of your loved ones and the typical alarm clocks and beauty products to your bedside tables. Just remember to keep things clear. The more bits and bobs you have on display, the more cluttered your bedroom will feel. Invest in trendy boxes or side tables with drawers to hide all those unsightly necessities. Tidy room, tidy mind.

Bright and Breezy Bedroom Styling

Dark walls aren't for everyone. Dark rooms will feel cosy in the evenings, however, if you struggle to wake up in the mornings, think about a clean, bright white bedroom. This way you will keep light bouncing around your room, and introduce colour through your furniture, rather than walls.   Mellow velvet bed in ochre

Our second bedroom decor look differs from the Rene bed in almost every way, except for one thing; the statement velvet headboard. Available in Teal, Ochre or Pepper Grey Velvet, our Mellow bed is the most perfect way to inject a splash of colour into a white bedroom. Whether you're a fan of a clean, scandi style, or a more eclectic, vintage look, the Mellow bed suits any interior style.   Mellow velvet bed in ochre

Top Tip: Pendant lights work great as bedside lamps. They will keep your side tables clear while creating a style statement.

Choosing a bright colour for your bed is an effortless way to bring an interior designer look to your bedroom. Let the bed be the focus, and keep your soft furnishings subtle and tonal. The shape of the Mellow bed with its smooth, sweeping velvet headboard lends itself perfectly to versatile, constantly changing interiors.   Mellow velvet bed in teal

Colour Combinations

One of our favourite features of the Mellow bed is the rich colour palette. You can play with different colour combination with your soft furnishings to change things up as often as you like. As homewares tend to be more reasonably priced than a bed, you can afford to be a bit more adventurous with your colour combinations. Here are a few of our bedroom styling colour suggestions:
  • Teal: Combine teal with cherry reds, navy blues and highlights of brass. The Navy will compliment the Teal, while the pop of red will be your accent colour. Mix and match textures and prints for a real eclectic look.
  • Ochre: Pair this soft mustard yellow with burnt orange, soft grey and graphic black and white textures. Ochre and orange complement each other while the grey will tone down the look. Monochrome textures will add a level of depth to your bedroom decor.
  • Pepper Grey: Possibly the most versatile colour of the Mellow bed is the Pepper Grey. The world is your oyster with this one, however, we would suggest adding a bit of colour to your bedroom decor. Play with forest greens and dusky pinks for an on-trend style with a hint of vintage glamour. Add elements of brass and marble for a true luxe look.

Bedroom Styling Tips

Styling a white bedroom gives you the freedom to choose any colour or accessory your inner stylist desires. These are some of our Stylist's top tips for decorating a simple bedroom:
  • Play with proportions. When styling a king size bed, you need to be aware of proportions. Avoid an expanse of bed linen by breaking it up with throws and cushions.
  • Choose classic wall art. There are many online websites where you can buy cheap prints. These are great if you want to update your home regularly, however you cannot go wrong with a classic art print. Be it an Andy Warhol Tomato Soup print, or maybe a vintage poster you picked up from a flea market. These are the treasures with meaning behind them and are unlikely to date. Keep wall art to a minimum in the bedroom, and remember to stick to a classic.
  • Wooden floors need a rug. It's a big trend at the moment to pull up the carpets and show of your exposed floorboard (if you're lucky enough to have them). However, this can make your bedroom feel cold, so always ensure you have a rug in your bedroom. You can choose an area rug, to sit under and around the base of your bed, or a couple of runners either side, just to keep your toes toasty on cold mornings.

  • Warm things up. As we get into the winter months, make your bedroom a snuggly, hygge space with chunky knits and sheepskin rugs. It's these soft elements which will create that cosy cocoon you won't want to leave.
  • Style your bedside tables simply. Don't over-do the bedside table decor. Choosing hanging pendant lights will keep your table top clear, although this doesn't mean you have more space for clutter! A simple stack of your fave books, a pretty vase and a relaxing candle should be more than enough.
