There’s a huge amount of variation in style and quality when it comes to bar stools. Daniel Smith, owner of Danetti, says the first thing you need to consider is the height of the stool you are buying: “There are two standard heighs of counter – 900ml and 1100ml, and if you buy the wrong heightstool for your counter, then you won’t be sitting comfortably!”
A great option is to go for a gas lift stool so the height is adjustable, meaning the stool can be used in different locations in your home or business. If you’re buying a bar stool for your home, or for a cafe where there are likely to be children around, then safety has to be a primary concern: “Bar stools are not advised for children,” says Daniel, “but if you are concerned that children may try to use them, then it is best to opt for either a fixed base bar stool that can actually be attached to the ground, or to get ones that have very heavy bases so they do not easily topple over.”
In terms of quality, Daniel says that good bar stools should have hard-wearing rubber or felt pads on the bottoms of the legs to protect your flooring. And if you want your stool to last, then either leather or faux leather will withstand spills and will be easy to wipe down. A strong plastic material will also stand the test of time very well.

The gas lift pod bar stool is sleek, ultra modern and very comfortable,
with a chrome base, steel frame and tough yet comfortable plastic seat.
This stool with its moulded curves and shiny construction would not look out of place in a modern art gallery, but we can also imagine it in a retro-inspired cafe or diner. It’s great for this kind of setting because the plastic seat is totally wipe-cleanable so will stay looking fresh for years.

It’s all perched upon a chrome frame which includes a foot rest for maximum comfort and a circular base in chrome or aluminium satin for stability.
The seat is made from high quality polyurethane and as gas lift adjusts to varied heights, making it a very versatile seating choice.

4. Elario bar stool (available in retro red)
If you are looking for that retro but stylish look then the Elario is the bar stool you need. The Elario stool consists of a chromed steel tube frame and an upholstered seat with an attractive chromed band.
Available with several options including faux or real leather, the round shape and vibrant colours combined with the chromed steel the design of the Elario is reminiscent of the 60s we reckon.

Over the last few months we’ve started to see a shift in people’s furniture buying habits. There’s increasingly a trend away from sprawling open-plan spaces with all the furniture part of one large scheme. The new trend is for arranging furniture into ‘zones’ and using smaller pieces of furniture and flexible items such as modular sofas, coffee tables and bar stools to create intimate and useful living areas.
For example within one open plan living dining room, you may want to create a ‘reading area’ with two high backed arm chairs arranged near a book case and a reading lamp. Separate from this you may want a couple of small sofas or modular seating that can be arranged as you like, plus a coffee table and your TV and entertainment units. On the other side of the room you could place a dining table and chairs, a sideboard and lamps. In this way, a large space is broken up into three distinct ‘zones’ that make your home a nice place to live.
If the area you’re breaking up is a kitchen diner instead, then you might want to create a casual dining zone with a breakfast bar and bar stools, a formal dining area with dining table and chairs, and perhaps an area with floor cushions or low stools arranged around a TV and games console – so the family can be entertained while somebody cooks.

Furniture ideas for small spaces
When you have lots of space to play with, you hardly have to give a thought to your furniture choices, but furnishing a small home can be a lot trickier. You’ll have to measure every dimension and find pieces that will fit the most awkward of gaps. At the same time, you have to bear in mind that it’s important to have some floor space free so your home doesn’t become too cramped.

First up, we wanted to show you the Bodil sofa – it’s fantastic for small living rooms because it doesn’t have the enormous padded arms that you find on many sofas, which can take up a metre of your valuable space if you’re not careful – instead it has neat metal arms. The seat and back rest is just as comfortable as a regular sofa though.

Next, a modern nest of tables – the Emery set – which are very useful in small homes. While you may think of nests of tables as something your grandmother used to have for putting bowls of peanuts around the living room at Christmas time, they’ve moved on, and are still actually a useful thing to have if you need extra surfaces when you have people over, but want them out of the way the rest of the time. SHAPE SHIFTER
Flexibility is important in a small home – sometimes you’ll need a large dining table, but probably not all the time, and when you don’t need one, you don’t want it dominating your room. A great option is to go for an extending table. The Pollock Multiform table is amazing because it can be used as a coffee table, extended to make a formal dining table , or even just half extended, so you have two separate surfaces – great for parties!

Turquoise is THE colour of summer 2010

The colour company Pantone announced that turquoise would be the key colour trend for 2010, and now it’s everywhere. A vibrant shade of turquoise is a great colour to have in your home or garden as it sets a summery tone and gives an upbeat vibe. Turquoise is very versatile and looks amazing with all sorts of unexpected colours such as red, hot pink, coral, chocolate, green, yellow and grey! We also think it looks great teamed with clear glass for a real water-side look.

Creating a contemporary wine bar interior: Danetti case study
We always like to champion our commercial customers, large or small. We love being able to help them create stylish and functional interiors and will happily showcase the end result on our blog.
We’ve just caught up with a recent client of ours, Andy, who runs Champers wine bar in Eastcote Middlesex.
He did a partial refurbishment of Champers using Danetti furniture, with sofas, chairs and bar stools in a combination of mulberry and cream upholstery, and says that the result is chic and sophisticated.
“We didn’t want to do a full refurb, just an update – we kept the same bar and flooring, so we wanted new furniture to give the place a new look.
“We chose the mulberry and cream colour scheme to compliment the Farrow & Ball paint we were using on the walls, and the result is a sophisticated interior, which we’ve had very positive feedback on from our regulars.
“We think the Danetti furniture definitely creates a good first impression at Champers, which is really important to us.”

New product alert: Blade bar stool

When we get our hands on a product that we know is going to be a huge success, we like to take a moment to tell you about it. The blade bar stool is one of these products. It’s been added to the site in the last week and it’s already proving hugely popular.
The reason for its success is that it ticks a lot of boxes – the price, features, style and colour range make it a great commercial or domestic purchase.
It’s made of plastic, so it’s totally serviceable – you can just wipe it clean. Plus, it’s stackable for when not in use, it can be used both outdoors and inside, and it comes in a great range of on-trend colours.
You can either stick to one colour – this can look very effective if you’re using the Blade stools in a large space, as you can see from our photography. Alternatively, perhaps if you need to bring a colour scheme together, you can chose a variety of colours and mix and match them. We like the idea of yellow, grey and cream used together, for instance, and red and white could look very striking in the right setting too.
