Somen Coffee Table

Somen Coffee Table

We love clever furniture, and the Somen can certainly be described as clever – and pretty too.

It’s been designed so  you can use it as a stool (very handy for occasional seating), a coffee table, and also a storage box.

It’s great for use at home – where we know people are always looking for ways to beat clutter. You can just chuck newspapers and magazines, kids’ toys, or even things like spare blankets, inside and forget all about them.

It is also ideal for a nightclub or coffee shop, where it offers great flexibility – table and chair in one! It can even be used outdoors.

We recommend mixing and matching the different sizes and colours, which gives a really funky look.

A great coffee shop armchair

Kino coffee shop-style armchair

Kino coffee shop-style armchair

We were enjoying a cappuccino at a coffee shop recently and thinking about how lovely our Kino armchairs are, and how they’d look perfect in a coffee shop environment.

We thought we’d highlight this on our blog, as we know that lots of coffee shop owners and interiors designers look on the blog for inspiration.

We love the fact that the seat is slightly angled backwards, which allows you to sink deep into the chair and feel really cosy. The arms are curved – just the right amount to make them comfortable to lay your arms on them. The back is high and padded and the seat is so deeply padded, it’s one of the nicest places to sit that we’ve ever discovered (and we’ve sat on our fair share of seats).

The Kino comes in black, red, cream and brown, so you can find something that fits the vibe of your coffee shop.

And if you don’t have your own coffee shop, just buy a couple of these chairs for your home, and you’ll be happy to stay in for your cuppa and the Sunday papers from now on!

Product focus: The Kool plastic chair

The Kool plastic chair for outdoor or indoor use

The Kool plastic chair for outdoor or indoor use

If you want a designer look for your home dining room, or for your restaurant or cafe, then we think the Kool chair is a stunning choice.

The seat is made from a translucent polycarbonate material – and if you choose the clear option, it’s completely transparent, which gives a great feeling of space and is very contemporary, as you’ll see from our picture of a chic modern cafe where the Kool is being used.

It comes in a fresh and funky range of colours: yellow, red, orange and clear – and we love the idea of mixing them up, perhaps going for a zingy orange and yellow colour scheme.

If you’re buying them for a commercial setting, then it’ll be very important to you that they can be stored away easily when not in use – these can be stacked up to eight chairs high!

Furniture ideas for small spaces

When you have lots of space to play with, you hardly have to give a thought to your furniture choices, but furnishing a small home can be a lot trickier. You’ll have to measure every dimension and find pieces that will fit the most awkward of gaps. At the same time, you have to bear in mind that it’s important to have some floor space free so your home doesn’t become too cramped.

At Danetti we’re used to helping people furnish their homes – both big and small, and we love the challenge of sourcing items that will help to make your living space a much nicer place to be.

We thought we’d draw your attention to a few of our pieces that are either so neat in proportion that they look good even in tiny flats, and also to a couple of our multi-functional products that save space because they can be used for different purposes.

Bodil sofa with metal arms

Bodil sofa with metal arms

COMPACT SEATING

First up, we wanted to show you the Bodil sofa – it’s fantastic for small living rooms because it doesn’t have the enormous padded arms that you find on many sofas, which can take up a metre of your valuable space if you’re not careful – instead it has neat metal arms. The seat and back rest is just as comfortable as a regular sofa though.

Emery contemporary nest of tables

OCCASIONAL TABLES

Next, a modern nest of tables – the Emery set – which are very useful in small homes. While you may think of nests of tables as something your grandmother used to have for putting bowls of peanuts around the living room at Christmas time, they’ve moved on, and are still actually a  useful thing to have if you need extra surfaces when you have people over, but want them out of the way the rest of the time. The Emery nest of tables is fantastic value for money and has three tables, each with a chrome frame and glass top.

The stackable Silvi plastic bar stool

STACKABLE STOOLS

If it’s seating that you need, then consider bar stools – these Silvi plastic bar stools are cool, contemporary and great value for money, plus they’re stackable so they’re a great temporary seating solution if you have a party or friends over, but can be compactly stored when not in use.Generally, bar stools can be a very good idea if you have a small home. When teamed with a wall-mounted slim-line bar table, they can provide you with somewhere to sit for meals without taking up much floor space.

The versatile Somen coffee table - use as a table, for storage or as a stool

THREE-IN-ONE

Next, take a look at this tri-purpose product – it’s a stool, table and storage unit all in one! The Somen coffee table can be opened to store magazines, toys, blankets, or whatever you like, and it can be flipped over to make a comfy padded stool. It’s ideal for modern homes, and it’s a very popular option for our commercial clients as well, as it’s ideal for bars and clubs.

SHAPE SHIFTER

Flexibility is important in a small home – sometimes you’ll need a large dining table, but probably not all the time, and when you don’t need one, you don’t want it dominating your room. A great option is to go for an extending table. The Pollock Multiform table is amazing because it can be used as a coffee table, extended to make a formal dining table , or even just half extended, so you have two separate surfaces – great for parties!

Product spotlight: the Aine chair

Aine chair in white

Aine chair in white

Every now and then we like to showcase a product on the Danetti blog that we think is just a little bit special.

This time, we’re focusing on the Aine chair, because we think it’s stunning, and if you buy one or two for your your home, we can assure you that they will be a real talking point.

This chair is part of the Italian-made Aine range and everything about it, from the gentle slope of the back rest to the deeply padded seat, is designed with your comfort in mind. There’s even a padded headrest which makes it a seriously comfortable place to sit for your afternoon nap!

That’s not to say any style is compromised – typical Italians. The whole design is really unusual – from the gravity-defying chrome base, to the deeply contoured upholstery, which we think is a really nice designer touch.

Aine chair in white, close up view

Aine chair in white, close up view

The upholstery is available in black or white faux leather.

This chair is such good quality that it is also suitable for use in a commercial setting – and would look amazing somewhere cool and contemporary like a bar or an art gallery.

Trend watch: modern country house glamour

Potenza dining table from Danetti

Potenza dining table from Danetti

We’ve all done it; been on a weekend break to some posh country house, filled with luxurious modern furniture like velvet sofas, quilted chairs and glamorous glass coffee tables; and come back deciding we’d actually like to recreate the look in our own home.

This year, the modern country house look is actually one of the key interiors trends, so we thought we’d try to help you get it just right with the use of Danetti products.

Romford dining chair from Danetti

Firstly, it’s important to invest in the basics – everything should be solid and well made. You want to give the impression that these pieces of furniture are modern classics, not fads. Opt for chairs with solid wood legs, sofas with quality upholstery that will last, and large tables that are suitable for a grand family dinner.

Selection of red cushions, from Marks & Spencer

Selection of red cushions, from Marks & Spencer

Secondly, light, airy, slightly faded colours can work very well, as can rich red tones, so opt for duck egg blue, lemon, plum, grey and cream in some rooms and a sophisticated red, grey and black colour palette in other rooms. Add sparkle and grandeur with metallic accessories, modern chandeliers and glass tables.

Blankets from Melin Tregwynt

Thirdly, dress the space well – use lots of plump cushions in living spaces and crisp white bed linen layered up with blankets in the bedrooms. You should also adorn the walls with individual pieces of interesting art and sculpture that look like they have taken a  lifetime to collect.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to mix classic period features like ornate bannisters and fireplaces with simple, clean, modern furniture – that way you won’t feel like you’re living in a museum, but rather a wonderful, modern and dynamic home that’s perfect for the 21st century – that is really the essence of the modern country house look.

New product alert: Blade bar stool

Blade bar stool

Blade bar stool

When we get our hands on a product that we know is going to be a huge success, we like to take a moment to tell you about it. The blade bar stool is one of these products. It’s been added to the site in the last week and it’s already proving hugely popular.

The reason for its success is that it ticks a lot of boxes – the price, features, style and colour range make it a great commercial or domestic purchase.

It’s made of plastic, so it’s totally serviceable – you can just wipe it clean. Plus, it’s stackable for when not in use, it can be used both outdoors and inside, and it comes in a great range of on-trend colours.

You can either stick to one colour – this can look very effective if you’re using the Blade stools in a large space, as you can see from our photography. Alternatively, perhaps if you need to bring a colour scheme together, you can chose a variety of colours and mix and match them. We like the idea of yellow, grey and cream used together, for instance, and red and white could look very striking in the right setting too.

So there it is … the Blade bar stool. Snap yours up!

The top ten furniture trends for 2010

Here at Danetti we’re constantly keeping our eye on emerging furniture trends coming from the big European furniture shows and glossy interior design magazines.

We keep these in mind when buying our furniture, always making sure that we can offer you both cutting edge options and simple contemporary classics.

If you need a little inspiration, then these are the top furniture trends which we see coming through strongly during 2010.

Soho modular chair

Soho modular chair

1. Sectional and modular sofas

Once upon a time modular, configurable seating was the preserve of commercial premises. But this year it’s proving popular as a great flexible option for cost-conscious home-owners too. Modular sofas are great for people who like to move their furniture around a lot because these items can be easily reconfigured to give a new look. The other advantage of modular seating is that often it can be assembled on a curve or a tight angle, to make the most of your available space.

2. Bright sofas

While neutral sofas will always be popular, we’re seeing the growing popularity of zingy, brightly-coloured sofas, teamed with neutral cushions – a reverse of the old look. It’s certainly a modern look and can look really striking with plain white or even clashing colour walls.

3. Leather upholstery

Still as smart and classy a choice as ever, leather furniture is a purchase that just doesn’t disappoint and keeps its appeal even when it gets old. In particular we’re seeing a rise in the popularity of coloured leather on bar stools, dining chairs and sofas.

4. Grey as the key neutral

Most colour schemes need a neutral shade to tie them down, ground them a bit. This year it seems to be grey that’s the perfect antidote to the bright colours. Chose your shade to complement the tone of your colour scheme – from elephant grey to pewter, there’s one that will look great.

4. Suede or microsuede

In these harsh economic times, we all want a bit of luxury and comfort. That’s what you get from suede or the faux alternative, microsuede. It’s soft, comfortable and sophisticated at the same time. As with leather, bright colours will be dominant.

2. Winged chairs

… or armchairs to you and I. This year, this classic style is hotter than ever. We approve – winged chairs are comfortable and cozy and look elegant at the same time.

5. Media centers

Perhaps because television design is changing, the furniture we use to house our TVs and other media is changing too. The trend is for chic, modern furniture to tidy everything away.

Harris arm chair - a return to the traditional

Harris arm chair - a return to the traditional

6. Traditional furniture design

Maybe it’s the economy that’s causing this trend – we’re hankering after a little security and buying into traditional, classic design What’s happening is a reinterpretation of the past – traditional with a twist if you like – manufacturers are taking old styles and using modern fabrics and quirky features to bring them up to date.

7. The chaise

We’re seeing a new interpretation of the traditional chaise longue with clean lines and modern fabrics such as leather taking the place of more ornate, fabric-covered versions. They’re great for a home setting – every living room should have one, but they also work well in a commercial space, perhaps in a shop or hotel lounge.

8. Round ended tables

A move away from the hard edges of the traditional table, towards a curvier, more interesting table shape. Materials include glass, wood and laminated plywood.

9. Green fabrics

Maybe to reflect the trend towards eco furnishings, it seems that the colour green has become trendy too. From bold block colours to fun leaf patterns, there’s plenty to choose from.

10. Stools

Perhaps because we’re living more casual lives these days, with informal seating areas in kitchens and kitchen-diners becoming the norm, the popularity of bar stools is on the rise. Opt for quirky, brightly-coloured stools to make this a modern look.
